São Vicente and Ventosa

The parish of São Vicente and Ventosa agglomerates the villages of São Vicente, Ventosa and Alentisca. It has about 800 inhabitants and with an area of 101.53 km2, it was the second largest parish in the whole country, before the reorganization of the parishes in 2013.

The parish has a huge Roman archaeological heritage with dozens of villae, among which stands out the Quinta das Longas. This scattered settlement continued until very late, since the parish of St. Vincent is only created at the beginning of the 19th century. The Mother Church of St. Vincent is the work of the late 19th century. XVI, ordered to build by the first Bishop of Elvas, D. António Mendes de Carvalho.

The parish of Our Lady of Alentisca was suppressed in 1760, dividing its area between the parishes of Santa Eulalia and St. Vincent. In 1859, the parish of Ventosa was included in that of St. Vincent.
